Finding Adeleda

A lot of missionaries have them-the one special child who touches our heart in some way. If we are blessed enough to return to their village we look for them each year. I first met Adeleda, an orphan in Matsilele, when she was probably 3 years old. She was different from the rest…more refined. She had a piece of fabric that she carried everywhere. When she would sit on the ground, she properly laid the fabric down to sit on it.
I did not see her in 2008 but did in 2009. I wondered about her and prayed for her as I would look at photos of her. When we came back in 2011 she was not there. Would I ever see her again?
As we returned to Matsilele this year I began to scan the children in search of her. It didn’t take me long to find her. There she was with her hair beautifully done sitting all tall and proper. I asked the translator to tell her that I had first met her when she was very small and I have continued to pray for her through the years. I told him to share with her how happy I was to see her again and to know she was okay.
Adeleda is now 10 years old. She and her friend would say my name and laugh each time they passed me. I pray as ministry continues to take place in this village through the years that she will come to know Christ as her Lord and Savior. I am so thankful that the Lord allowed me to see her again.
