Praying for the World

Operation World: The Definitive Prayer Guide to Every NationA book that Doug and I highly recommend is Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream by David Platt. He is the pastor of The Church of Brook Hills in Birmingham, Alabama. As God began doing a work in his heart concerning the commands of Christ in relation to the American lifestyle, he shared this with his congregation and challenged them to join him in living a life of true discipleship according to Christ’s gospel. This has become known as The Radical Experiment.

Some may think that you can’t get much more radical than what we have done in selling our home and most of our possessions to move to South Africa and teach God’s word to the people of Mozambique. Yet, there is much more we can do and one thing is in the area of prayer. The first component of The Radical Experiment is to pray for the entire world in one year. This is where the book Operation World: The Definitive Prayer Guide to Every Nation comes to be very handy. It has information about every country and their people groups in a dated format that guides your daily praying. It shares answered prayer that has taken place and tells you of prayer needs within that country.

If God has burdened you to pray for the nations but you aren’t sure where to begin, this book is a wonderful resource. You can also just go to their website and download information on the countries for your church or missions group. May God move mightily throughout the world burdening people’s hearts to pray for the lost and to go share the gospel with those who have never heard.
