Have you read “A Chance to Die: The Life & Legacy of Amy Carmichael” by Elisabeth Elliot? Miss Carmichael’s words and life are inspiring to me. She had what she called “a confession of love” that she and her fellow sisters in Christ would read and accept as their calling unto the Lord. It reads:
Whatsoever Thou sayest unto me, by Thy grace I will do it.
Thy love, O Christ, my Lord.
Thou art able to keep that which I have committed unto Thee.
To do Thy will, O God.
That which I would not choose, but which Thy love appoints.
Conform my will to Thine.
Love to live, live to love.
The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance.
She would end with this prayer:
Teach us, good Lord, to serve Thee as Thou deservest; to give and not to count the cost; to fight and not to heed the wounds; to toil and not to seek for rest; to labor and not to ask for any reward save that of knowing that we do Thy will, O Lord our God.
May that be the prayer of our hearts…
